In the exhibition ZONE the well-known Finnish artist Hannes Heikura leads the viewers to the boundaries of light and darkness, to the ultimate core of photography – the depiction of light.

The metropolis photographed by Heikura is a landscape of the mind undefined on both time and space. It’s a non-place with overtones of film-noir and Sin City, an immaterial state of mind, where light and shade engage in an endless dance continuously redefining their mutual relationships.

ZONE is a story of today’s world of light and shadow, marked by the photographer’s strong artistic vision. Actuality, the relationships of photography with reality, has always been important for the Finnish photographer Hannes Heikura. Photography must tell of life here and now, and yet it must be something more – the photographer’s bold interpretation of reality.

In ZONE Hannes Heikura carries on his urban wandering as a portrayer of magical realism. He has started from light and shadow to come to realize the solitude of human mind. All things that are strange are also of value, for they entail endless interpretation. A strange image is an enigma that will not leave a viewer alone.
