Photographs by Yuri Mechitov and Elena Karusaar
ROSPHOTO presents the exhibition project “Alongside Parajanov. Photographs by Yuri Mechitov and Elena Karusaar”, prepared to mark the centenary of the outstanding film director of world cinema, Sergei Parajanov.
The exhibition features portraits of the director, behind-the-scenes moments, film posters, and drawings. The project includes works from the collections of ROSPHOTO, the Moscow Museum of Cinema, the Sergei Parajanov Museum in Yerevan, and the archive of a photographer Yuri Mechitov.
On January 9, 2024, the world celebrated the 100th anniversary since the birth of of Sergei Parajanov’s — film director of Armenian descent, screenwriter, and an artist whose name is inscribed in the history of world cinema.
In the works by Yuri Mechitov, a photographer and author of the photobook “Sergei Parajanov. Chronicle of a Dialogue”, the visitors will be able to see the director’s life in his legendary apartment on Kote Meskhia Street in Tbilisi, a cultural magnet for artists and intellectuals from across the Soviet Union during the 1980s, as well as scenes from the filming of “The Legend of Suram Fortress” and “Arabesques on the Theme of Pirosmani”.
The series by Elena Karusaar, an artist and photographer at Lenfilm Studio, offers a detailed visual narrative of the making of Parajanov’s final film, “Ashik-Kerib”.
