ROSFOTO will host a presentation of a book of photographs and texts by documentary photographer Vladimir Sokolaev.
Vladimir SOKOLAEV (1952–2016) was a documentary photographer and videographer, an honorary member of the Union of Photographers of Russia. He chose photography as his profession in 1974 while working at the Kuznetsk Metallurgical Plant in Novokuznetsk.
He was one of the founders and members of TRIVA, the first creative photographers’ group in the USSR, which officially existed from 1978 to 1981 before being shut down. Vladimir continued working within the group’s aesthetic and principles until 1989, after which he focused on landscape photography and videography. He passed away on September 12, 2016, in Novokuznetsk.
The first part of the book features photographs: 169 black-and-white images, presented solely as photographs with their titles.
The second part of the book is the author’s voice — a detailed personal account by Vladimir Sokolaev about his creative journey and the history of the TRIVA group. It includes biographical images as well as reflections on photography and the era in which the photographs were made.
The event will be hosted by Khristina Sokolaeva, Vladimir Sokolaev’s daughter and the custodian of his photographic archive.
What to expect at the presentation:
Guests will also receive impressions of vintage author’s stamps.
