Throughout all these years, the University has moved forward in step with the country, strengthening its power and dedicating all its efforts to the advancement of science.

History is made by people. The history of the Polytechnic was created by thousands of scientists, designers, engineers, and teachers, through their daily work, discoveries, and inventions that brought worldwide recognition to Russian science.

The Polytechnic embodies the spirit of the Atomic Project, the T-34 tank, the GOELRO plan, new technologies in metallurgy, digital engineering, unmanned systems, and biomedicine. And behind all of these significant inventions are people — Polytechnic alumni and researchers. Among them are Nobel Prize laureates Nikolay Nikolayevich Semyonov and Pyotr Leonidovich Kapitsa; eminent scientists Igor Vasilyevich Kurchatov, Abram Fedorovich Ioffe, Yakov Borisovich Zeldovich; as well as contemporary engineers and researchers.

The exhibition “St. Petersburg Polytechnic University — 125 Years,” prepared by the teams of ROSPHOTO and SPbPU, consists of two sections.

The first section reveals the formative years of the Institute, captured by Professor Boris Nikolayevich Menshutkin of the St. Petersburg Polytechnic Institute, preserved in the collections of the Museum of SPbPU History. Menshutkin’s photographs document the stages of the Polytechnic’s construction, the interiors of lecture halls, offices, and laboratories in the main building and the chemical pavilion of the early 20th century.

The second section presents the faces of those who shaped the University’s history — familiar and unknown, captured working diligently in laboratories, studying in the library, engaging in sports, and performing in the renowned White Hall.
