The solo exhibition by Pavel Shinsky, "Winemakers. Old World / New World", is dedicated to the people of a rare and remarkable profession — the winemakers.
The exhibition features more than 35 original prints by the artist, created in the genres of thematic still life, landscape, and portrait photography. The photographs were taken by Shinsky over the past three years during his travels through some of the world’s most celebrated wine-producing regions.
The geography of the images is extensive — from the sunlit landscapes of Italy and the historic châteaux of France to the mountain vineyards of South America. Yet the true focus of the exhibition lies in the portraits of winemakers from around the globe, in which one can feel both their genuine love of these for their craft and the unifying spirit of centuries-old wine culture.
«I collected these travel sketches over three years as part of a training program at the International Organization of Viticulture and Wine (OIV), which includes 50 countries, including Russia. In 2021, Russian became (and still remains) the sixth official language of the OIV. Thus, the most authoritative industry organization recognized our country as one of the leading wine-making powers. Today, Russian winemaking is developing by leaps and bounds and takes its rightful place in the large international wine family: at the exhibition, it is represented by photographs of producers from Crimea and Kuban.
The world of wine is truly one big family. Industry specialists willingly share their experiences, intern with each other, constantly taste the wines of their colleagues, and even try to jointly find an answer to such a challenge as global warming. The world of wine does not know and has never known any borders.
Winemaking is an entire universe with its own language, history and genealogy, geography and geology, chemistry and economics. Connoisseurs of this unique drink can be found in a variety of fields – from politics to finance and industry, from art to gastronomy and tourism.
Wine introduces, unites and reconciles.»
