The film festival “Nicaragua: Heritage and New Culture” at ROSPHOTO, organized in collaboration with the National Cinematheque of Nicaragua, presents the multifaceted cinema of this Latin American country.

In 2023, with the support of the Government of the Republic of Nicaragua and the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Nicaragua, a cooperation agreement was concluded between ROSPHOTO and the National Cinematheque of Nicaragua. The festival “Nicaragua: Heritage and New Culture” aims to broaden the horizons of cultural exchange.

The festival program includes films by the leading documentary filmmaker Adriano Carrasco, based on archival footage; works portraying the contemporary culture of the country, including dance, poetry, and collective practices. An additional screening will be held of the science-fiction film “Dragon Hunt” (1986), a joint initiative of the USSR and Nicaragua. The film was one of the USSR’s box office leaders in 1987, attracting 15.2 million viewers.

In addition to film screenings, the festival at ROSPHOTO features meetings with directors and film scholars, lectures, and open discussions of the films.
