Eternal Classics: Traditions and Experiments in Landscape Photography

Photography as an art form embodies a multitude of shapes and dimensions that define our understanding of beauty. Contemporary photography allows us to marvel at nature in its diversity of forms — from lush forests, majestic mountains, and silent lakes to the intricate patterns of a snowflake.

The exhibition “Eternal Classics” demonstrates the continuity and interconnection between the classical traditions of printmaking and landscape photography, rooted in the aesthetics of Shinto philosophy and the artistic forms of pictorial photography. Each participant seeks to grasp, express, and construct a unique state of “Gelassenheit” through their work. One that allows a person to let go of existence and dwell in silent uncertainty.

Throughout the exhibition, we are able to witness the expression of a worldview that combines traditions of solitude philosophy with a sense of unity with nature from artists across the globe. Their work is aimed to explore balance and harmony, achieved through the creation of a point of reference in the external world, thereby bringing a sense of inner calm.

The project features more than twenty various photographers, including photogravure pioneer Peter Miller, an iconic photographer Frank Dituri, master of metaphysical landscapes Everett Kennedy Brown, Asian photography stars such as Han Sang Pil and Hiroaki Izumi. As well as Stanislav Makarov, Professor of the New Academy of Fine Arts named after Timur Novikov, and Alexander Dymnikov, President of the Union of Photographers of Saint Petersburg.
