YOUTH THROUGH THE EYES OF YOUTH

The exhibition “Youth Through the Eyes of Youth” offers a look at the surrounding world as seen by today’s youth — a world perceived primarily through the lens of optimism, sincerity, and purity of vision.

The project presents more than thirty photographs from the ROSPHOTO collection — works by students of the Faculty of Journalism of St. Petersburg State University, graduates of youth photography studios, and novice photographers from different regions of Russia.

Some of the authors have been involved in photography since childhood; others have chosen it as their profession; for many, it remains a beloved hobby.

The photographs capture the world of creativity, learning, athletic achievement, and the search for one’s place in life. The young artists reflect on the importance of spiritual values and faith, moments of friendship, the beginnings of love, the creation of a family, and the hope for a bright future — both their own and of their country, and finally, express a desire of the upcoming generation to take a worthy place in the world.

The aspiration to succeed and excel in everything is combined with self-reflection and introspection. The photographs express strong emotions — unspoken sadness, exuberant joy, the spontaneity of creative impulse — along with empathy toward the older generation, a willingness to help and learn from their experience.

The rapid development of technology has provided young photographers with the tools to capture and share moments of everyday life, to discover beauty in the ordinary, and to tell their own stories through images.

NORMCORE. PRACTICES OF EVERYDAY LIFE IN CONTEMPORARY YOUTH PHOTOGRAPHY

A large-scale group exhibition brings together the works of ten photographers.

Comprising more than 150 photographs, the exhibition brings together diverse subjects, styles, and moods into a single narrative that reveals generational sensibilities and the spirit of metamodernism — a movement that encompasses the evolution of culture and art in recent decades.

The exhibition’s title refers to a contemporary fashion trend characterized by a preference for unpretentious clothing and a desire to appear “ordinary,” not to stand out.

In a broader sense, it reflects a metamodernist approach that emphasizes relationality, the ability to focus on one’s own and others’ inner experiences, rather than the pursuit of group identities defined by opposition or difference.
